Happy New Year

Recently I shared a post by Mary Marantz from the archives of Justin and Mary’s blog. As Mary does so well, she got a little personal and while this one is similar it’s a perfect reminder to wish your readers a Happy New Year.

We’re all searching for ways to thank our readers and the people who support this passion we have for imaging. So, why not just come out and say it? I love the way Mary redefines the words “happy new year,” and puts her own spin on it leaving plenty of room for her readers to think about her post.

I also love the inclusion of a couple of great images. So many of you forget you’re a photographer. If a picture is worth a thousand words remember to include a couple of great examples of your skill set with each post.

It’s something we all say. Usually while shouting and throwing confetti. And followed by a big kiss, hopefully from someone with minty fresh breath.

But I don’t think it’s something we really think about too much…it’s just a phrase people say. Like fo’ shizzle. And (Lord help us), cray cray.

Because when you really think about it, it should really read: happy brand NEW year. Happy clean slate. Happy new chance to get it right. Happy new beginning. Happy new day dawning. No wait, that sounds like a vampire movie.

Let’s just stick with happy new year in your life where you can actually choose to go out and do all those BIG things you’ve been meaning to do.

No excuses, no regrets.

Every morning when I wake up, I give thanks for a new day to be alive. To laugh more and love more, and to do more work that hopefully helps people. Today I got to wake up and give thanks for a new day AND a new year.

Another chance to do something that matters. To leave more than I take. And to love like crazy while I have the chance.

That is what I hope for you in the new year.

Happy NEW year, you guys. I for one, can’t wait to see what you do with it.
